Concord Mountain Lions defeat Charleston 74-65 in home fi nale

The Concord Mountain Lions were able to snap their two game losing streak by winning the home finale Monday night in Athens 74-65 over the University of Charleston. Concord found themselves in a tough game at the half as Concord would actually be behind by 4 at 37-33 before erupting in the 2nd half outscoring Charleston by 13 points 41-28 in the 2nd half to come away with the 9 point victory 74-65.

In the game Concord would shoot 45.5% from the field and would e led by Cordale Boyd's 21 points. Cory Willard would add 1 points which included going 4-6 from 3 point range. Rafee Smith would also add 16 points for the Mountain Lions in their 74-65 win over Charleston.

Also this past week Concord faced West Virginia State this past Saturday night on Senior Day in Athens, only to fall 104-87 at the hands of the 1st place team in the WVIAC conference. Concord would keep the game close early and even had a 7 point lead early and the lead would change hands 7 times before West Virginia State pulled away and Concord would be down by 13 at halftime 57-44. In the 2nd half Concord would try to get back into the game but West Virginia State was too strong for the Mountain Lions as Concord would fall 104-87. Concord was led by Cordale Boyd who would score 19 points. Matthew Parker would add 17 points, and Rafee Smith would score 14 points in the Mountain Lions loss.

On February 19th Concord faced Glenville State only to lose 82-70. Concord would go 26-63 for 41% from the field and Concord would also pull down 33 rebounds on the night. Thomas Brown led Concord with 18 points, he was followed by Matthew Parker with 17, and Cory Willard would have 8 points for Concord. Derek Calloway would lead Concord on the boards pulling down 11 rebounds in the Mountain Lions loss to Glenville State.

The Concord Mountain Lions are currently 10-16 overall on the season and are 8-11 in the WVIAC conference. Next up for the Concord Mountain Lions is nearby WVIAC conference rival Bluefield State 2-24 on Saturday afternoon at 4:00pm just down the road in Bluefield, WV. Concord defeated Bluefield State 91-58 on February 2nd in Athens, and 109-100 on November 29th in the Bluefield State Tournament. Concord will then play on Tuesday March 3rd in the 1st round of the WVIAC conference tournament.
