Kati Whittaker, Director of Alumni Relations at Concord, organized the 21st Annual Phone-a-thon to raise funds for student scholarships and library funding. The phone-a-thon was held February 15 – March 5, 2009 and again from March 22 – 23, 2009 in the Subway Sides, from 6-8:30 p.m. and over $30,000 was raised.

In effort to help the cause, 18 organizations on campus participated in the phone-a-thon. Student Support Services, Gamma Beta Phi, Delta Zeta, Housing and the Concord University Football Team were among the organizations who participated.

Although over $30,000 was raised, Whittaker says this number is down from previous years. “Many donors told us that they were more conservative this year because of the economy and job loss. For that reason the phone-a-thon was different this year compared to years passed.”

The goal for funds raised was set at $50,000. The lack of volunteers and donor support could have contributed to the lack of funds compared to previous years. Alumni Office is hopeful, however, that next year the event will pick up.
