The eighth annual Relay For Life at ConcordUniversity raised over $19,000 in donations for the American Cancer Society exceeding the campaign fundraising goal by over $1,000. Since 2002, Relay For Life at ConcordUniversity has generated over $169,000 for the American Cancer Society.
Fundraising for the 2009 Relay For Life campaign began in October 2008 with the crowing of Concord student Krystina Dillard as Miss Relay For Life.Other fundraising efforts included selling Relay For Life merchandise, bake sales, Bid for Bachelors event, a yard sale and a Longaberger Basket Bingo.
The Relay For Life walk was held Saturday, April 25, 2009, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.at the Leslie R. and RubyWebbCarterCenter on Concord’s Athens campus.More than 150 people participated - split into 13 teams. The teams represented ConcordUniversity students, faculty, staff and community members.
Planning for the 2010 Relay For Life at ConcordUniversity will begin in September with a new event chair, Erin Clark.
“After eight years Dr. Angie Edwards has decided to resign as chair,” said Clark. “She has been a wonderful chair.Her efforts have been the reason that the Relay has been so successful.She will still be active in Relay helping her HPO Team.”
