Concord University will receive $1 million for energy renovations by 2010 for HVAC renovations involving heating and cooling. This money will create or retain at least four engineering jobs in the state of West Virginia. Although Concord sent out many proposals for every building on campus, onlyMarsh Halland possibly the Fine Arts building will be renovated. Sarvay is the only building that will not be affected.

Bill Lewis, Attorney General of the Student Government Association, stated, “this is money well spent and a good way to create and save jobs. It reduces BTUs by 1.3 billion units, which is a huge reduction. This program pays for itself in the long run.”

The entire program will create or retain at least 36 jobs nationwide, which is exactly what our country needs during this recession. The AGPC and the West Virginia Division of Energy are starting this program in many different public colleges in West Virginia. The department of energy set a goal to reduce BTUs by 27.9 billion units. Although many of the fine details are still being worked out, this program should benefit Concordians in the future.
