The conference included numerous activities, such as educational sessions, conference luncheons, meetings, a graduate program fair, a closing banquet, and an awards ceremony.
But the primary goal at the NACA conference is for campus groups from around the Southern region of the country to preview entertainment acts and book them to come to their school if they choose. This is set up as a number of spotlight showcases each day followed by a marketplace.
During the spotlight showcases, musical groups, magicians, comedians, poets, dance teams, and speakers perform for the campus groups. Then at the marketplace, the campus groups discuss the acts and their fees. If an act was affordable and desired by our committee, Anna Hardy block booked them for a possible future appearance at
While Hardy was doing business, the SAC members enjoyed themselves by meeting the performers and acquiring some free merchandise. “NACA was a great opportunity to meet, see, and establish connections with performers from all over the country that have a particular flair for college shows. I had a lot of fun and met talented people I never thought I would get to meet,” freshman SAC member Bob Shamblin said.
Acts this year included bands such as Ben Kweller, Safetysuit, Saving Jane, Kalai, Autonomous, Derek James, Mikal, hypnotist Sailesh, comedian Ant, and magician Nate Staniforth.
The Student Activities Committee block booked about three acts for both this year and next year and will continue to add acts to the schedule.
For anyone interested in joining SAC, the group meets Mondays at
