The Lip Sync contest was held in the Carter Center main gym last Friday. The contest is held yearly as a part of the homecoming court competitions and it features performances by the organizations that are sponsoring the candidates.

As part of the competition, the candidates and their respective organizations perform a musical number with dancing and acrobatics that correlates to the theme of their candidacy. From themes as classic as the Beatles or Michael Jackson to a more contemporary theme with Justin and Beyonce, this years Lip Sync provided entertainment for all that were involved.

Jaqueline McKenzie, a recently transferred junior, said that the event is, “really good because you get people from different organizations together. You meet people.”

Mckenzie went on to reflect who she thought had the best performances, “Queen, it was awesome. There was Wayne and Garth and the Vanilla Ice beat in Under Pressure,” but she also enjoyed Sigma Sigma Sigma and Chi Omega Psi’s performance Until the End of Time, “It was different. Everyone else did older rock icons.”

The Sigmas and Chi Omega Psi were the winners of the nights Lip Sync as they performed renditions of Justin Timberlake and Beyonce songs.

Jay White, a member and performer for Chi Omega Psi, said of their performance, “We did really well. It felt really good, especially after all the time we spent on it. It’s the second year I’ve done it and it takes a lot of work, but everyone can enjoy it.  Ours was more recent icons and main stream. A new age, more modern feel.”

White went on to give credit to the other particapants, “I really liked Alpha Sigma Tau’s Queen, but out of all of them, when the TKE’s and dance team did Thriller, I really liked that.”

Megan Godfrey, Junior, a member and performer for the CU Elite’s,returned the compliment by stating that the Sigmas and Chi Omega Psi were her second favorite perfomance because, “they seemed to have a lot of energy.”

Godfrey’s first favorite was of course her own organizations performance “Living in a material world…is a Thriller,” which was another of the crowd favorites that night.

Brittany Keys, a senior in the audience, said that the Tau Kappa Epsilon and CU Elite was her favorite, “but only because I like Michael Jackson and they did Michael Jackson.”

Keys continued by expressing the importance of the Lip Sync on campus, “It is very beneficial.  It brings the campus closer together.”

The Lip Sync brings the campus closer together, but it also encourages many alumni to return to campus for the show.

Matt Peake, a Concord Alumni, said of the Lip Sync, “It’s been getting bigger every year and it brings a lot of people back.”
