Concord University Police Department has a new officer on staff, but many students may not get to see him very often.

That’s because Donald Ingram, the newest member of CUPD, works nightshift from midnight until 8 a.m.

Ingram received his training from West Virginia State Police Academy in May of 1987.

He is originally from the Princeton area and has worked with Princeton Police Department; however, Concord is the first college he has worked with.

Before beginning work at CU on Sept. 16, Ingram ran a firearm store in Charlotte, NC.

He describes himself as a “hunting, fishing, gun kind of guy.”

He’s also quite family oriented – he is married with one son, who has been serving in Afghanistan for two months now.

Ingram was awaiting a call from his son when this interview took place.

He described the environment at Concord Police Department as “more cohesive” than other police departments and plans on staying here for quite some time.

“I think I’ve found my lily pad,” Ingram said. He jokingly said his schedule and pay could be better, but he really enjoys the camaraderie with his fellow officers.

Ingram says he is impressed with the number of years people work at Concord, with most of them retiring here. “Seeing that really makes me feel like I’ve made the right choice coming here.”
