For her role in Concord’s 3-0 start, the Mountain Lions’ Jolysa Brown has earned the first West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award.
The sophomore from Hinton posted a career-high 32 points in Concord’s 92-81 conference-opening win at Davis & Elkins on Thursday, November 19. Brown finished 12-13 from the floor and was 8-8 from the line against the Lady Senators. She also posted nine rebounds and three assists. In Concord’s 83-58 win over BluefieldCollege on November 16, Brown put up a double-double – 18 points and a career-high 18 rebounds – to go with two assists, two steals and two blocked shots. In the Lady Lions’ first game of the season, against Milligan College (TN) on November 15, Brown blocked a career-high six shots.Her defense helped thwart Milligan’s strong inside game in a 72-60 Concord victory. For the week, Brown averaged 19.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.7 blocks and 2.3 assists per game, while shooting 20-30 (.667) from the field and 19-21 (.905) from the free-throw line.
Brown, a member of the WVIAC All-Freshmen Team last season, is Concord’s first Player of the Week since Amber Schowalter won the award for the week of February 16, 2009.
