On Wednesday, Jan. 27, Student Operated Activity Planning held bingo night at Subway Sides. The group decided to make the best of the evening with a night of games after the original entertainment, comedian Dan Ahdoot, cancelled.
Subway Sides was filled with participants, and some tables from the Subway dining area had to be moved to accommodate the overflow of students. This outpouring of people may have been due to the free pizza provided or the long list of prizes offered for winners.
Prizes included a microwave, Blu-ray player, Apples to Apples game, Snuggie, movie tickets, Itunes gift card, flex dollars, DVDs, a sled, and various food items, including Ramen noodles. A variety of bingo games were played in different rounds for the different prizes.
Students appeared to have fun and enjoy the night and did not seem to mind that the original entertainer had cancelled. "It was a great turnout," sophomore Grace Hurney said. "I was really impressed by the selection of prizes."
SOAP is an organization, led by President Stephanie Bailey and Advisor Anna Hardy, that plans all activities for campus. They recently changed their name from the Student Activities Committee in order to revamp and get more people interested in the group. They also now have a mascot named Suds, a bar of soap, in reference to the acronym for their new name.
Anyone interested in planning events for campus is encouraged to join SOAP. They meet Mondays at 5:30 in the back room of the cafeteria. Anyone eating dinner at that time is welcome to go back and join the group to help plan the events and entertainment at Concord.
