Beth Moss, the youngest daughter in the Moss Family: Tanya Spinella

Junior, majoring in Elementary Education with a minor in Music

Hometown: Elgood WV, but my husband and I now live in Athens

Previous acting experience: I have played Jo March from Little Women, The Musical in the CU Opera Scenes last spring. I also was in theatre in high school for two years, and took an acting class offered at PikeView taught by an instructor from New York named Mauricio Bustamante. Favorite thing about your character: It would have to be her constant happiness. Beth is a very energetic character that never seems to let life get her down. Even when her sister leaves, she still puts on a happy face for her mother to let her know everything is going to be okay. For a ten year old, that’s very mature of her.

Ma Moss (Thursday), the matriarch of the Moss Family: Chandra Sheppard

Sophomore, majoring in Psychology

Hometown: Summersville, WV.

Previous Acting Experience: I started acting when I was six, but this is my first big role since I’ve been in college.

Favorite thing about your character: How dramatic she is! She jumps from one emotion to another, which actually makes it really fun to portray her to the audience.

Ma Moss (Friday), the matriarch of the Moss Family: Sarah Edgar

Junior, majoring in Music Education

Hometown: Morgantown, WV

Previous Acting Experience: I’ve done a few musicals/plays here and there starting in middle school.

Favorite thing about your character: She lets her imagination run wild. It’s great because while Mr. Splinters starts the plot, she keeps it rolling with all her questions. It’s been a very exciting, yet challenging, role.

Mr. Splinters, postman and family friend: JR Davis

Junior, majoring in Elementary Education

Hometown: Wallback, WV

Previous Acting Experience: I participated in the Conchord’s “2009 Scenes of the Opera” but this is my first theatrical experience.

Favorite thing about your character: My character is the town gossip who gets all the drama started.  He first tells about the two men and gets everyone worried but then he has to straighten things out towards the end.  Without my character, no one would know the plot of the story.

Laurie Moss (Thursday), the eldest daughter in the Moss Family: Carrie Honaker.

Laurie Moss (Friday), the eldest daughter in the Moss Family: Jordan Stadvec

Junior, majoring in Music Education

Hometown: Princeton WV

Previous Acting Experience: Previous roles- Luisa in “The Fantasticks”, Girl Singer in “Spoon “River Anthology”, Sally in “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”, chorus in “Dido and Anaes” and Haydn’s “The Creation”, also scenes as Maria from “West Side Story” and Lakme from “Lakme” in Concord’s “Making a Scene” production. I did theatre in high school and also took a two week course with Mauricio Bustamante of the Strasberg Theatre in NY.

Favorite thing about your character: She is such a complicated character to understand and play. It is hard to relate to someone that falls in love with a boy in one night, is left by that boy and still leaves her family without graduating to see the world. In another way, though, I can completely relate in the way that Laurie is a dreamer and wants to see more than just her farm and experience life.

Martin, a migrant worker: Michael Dorsey

Senior, majoring in Music Education

Hometown: Galax, VA

Previous Acting Experience: Some past roles have included Charlie Brown in You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown (The Pulaski Theatre), Bellomy in The Fantasticks and Male Singer/multiple roles in Spoon River (Concord Summer Repertory Theatre), Tony in West Side Story (2009 CU Opera Scenes), and Chorus in Haydn’s The Creation (Concord University).

Favorite thing about your character: He gets the girl, but leaves her in the end.

Top, a migrant worker: John Wisman

Senior, majoring in Music and Theater

Hometown: White Oak, WV

Previous Acting Experience: I’ve done eight shows since I’ve been at Concord.

Favorite thing about your character: He doesn’t filter his thoughts before he verbalizes them.  He always speaks his mind.

Grandpa Moss, patriarch of the Moss Family: Matthew Browning.

Mr. Jenks, a neighbor and family friend: Matthew Hamilton

Freshman, majoring in Recreation and Tourism Management

Hometown: Wenonah, New Jersey

Previous Acting Experience: High school musical productions such as Les Miserable, Music Man, Godspell, and a few others.

Favorite thing about your character: Mr. Jenks is a good small supporting role. My favorite thing about this role is how much of a fun character he is. He is always having a good time no matter what kind of drama is occurring.

Mrs. Jenks, a neighbor and family friend: Emily Thomas

Freshman, majoring in Music/Theatre

Hometown: Beckley, WV

Previous Acting Experience: I’ve worked with theatre most of my life. I got started in 5th grade.

Favorite thing about your character: I love that my character is just completely clueless to everything that goes on around her (mainly because she is drunk). And I love being stage manager! It’s lots of fun but a lot of work too.

Mrs. Splinters, a family friend: Hannah Clark

Sophomore, majoring in Music Education

Hometown: Charleston, WV

Previous Acting Experience: I have a little acting experience, mostly from high school Drama Club.

Favorite thing about your character: I think it’s that she’s such a classic old biddy. She floats around the party, has a little too much to drink, might even make a fool of herself, but she has a good heart and is always willing to help.

Chorus of Party Guests: CU Collegiate Singers
