Cop Out - You Will Laugh Your Head Off!

For a reason I don’t quite understand, a lot of action movie actors consider themselves really funny and decide to go into the comedy genre.
Most of the time the results are horrendous. Two that leap to mind are Schwarzenegger’s “Junior” and Stallone’s “Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot.” Now the legendary Bruce Willis has decided to step into the genre with his latest movie, “Cop Out.”
Contrary to the examples of his colleagues, Bruce Willis manages to pull off a memorable and laugh-inducing role in “Cop Out.”
He plays the role of a veteran detective in the NYPD, whose methods are not entirely orthodox. His partner in duty doesn’t help either with his emotional outbreaks.
Willis’ partner is played by talented comedian Tracy Morgan. The tandem on screen creates a rollercoaster of back-to-back hilarious scenes. I don’t remember the last time I laughed so hard at a movie.
The acting crew is complemented by Kevin Pollak and young star Adam Brody. While they didn’t get as much screen time as I would’ve liked, their presence was a welcome addition to “Cop Out.”
Kudos go for director Kevin Smith as well. He has managed to turn a relatively standard and straight-forward plot into a fresh and memorable movie.
Detective Jimmy Monroe (Willis) needs 50 thousand dollars to pay for his daughter’s wedding. In a moment of desperation he decides to sell one of his prized baseball cards.
Unfortunately, while he is in the shop some robbers steal his card. Jimmy and his partner Paul (Tracy Morgan) go after the robbers in an attempt to return the stolen card. In their adventures they run into a Mexican drug cartel boss and interrupt his business.
The plot does not sound very exciting or unique, but trust me – it is something completely different on the big screen. In many ways, the movie is similar to past Bruce Willis movies “The Whole Nine Yards” and its sequel.
Another interesting thing I noticed was the way Bruce Willis looks in “Cop Out.” In his previous movie, “Surrogates,” he plays a burnt-out detective and looks really old.
In “Cop Out,” you wouldn’t guess he is more than 40-years-old. This can only mean that we can expect more good movies with Bruce in the next few years.
Personally, I can’t wait for the year 2012 and the release of Die Hard 5.
