For What It's Worth: Facebook should be banned
Amanda Lee
Hi, my name is Amanda and I’m addicted to Facebook.
As a matter of fact, I am so incredibly addicted to Facebook, that it’s taken me around ten minutes just to type this because I’m too distracted by the glow of my News Feed.
A few days ago, I was talking to a couple of my fellow employees (at the always lovely American Eagle) when we started to discuss our study habits. And although all four of us are studying in completely different fields, our study patterns were not that different. Our studying usually starts off fairly strong. We sit down at our desks with high hopes of accomplishing a fair amount of reading or writing, but fifteen minutes in, you fall down the rabbit hole, you’ve logged onto Facebook. And the next thing you know, an entire hour has gone by but yet, you haven’t accomplished a single thing.
What is it about Facebook that sucks so many students in? And more importantly, is there a way that we can stop letting it interfere with our studying?
I’ve had a Facebook account since senior year in high school. Actually, the very moment I received my
The extent to which I check my Facebook is quite sickening. It’s the first thing I do when I wake up, I check it while in class, whenever I get home from somewhere, when I’m bored, when I’m trying to procrastinate, before I go to bed. In essence, I’m never not logged on to Facebook. The shocking thing is though, I’m not alone.
Right now, I bet you could walk into the library and see anywhere between four and seven people on Facebook. And it’s very irksome when you’re simply looking for a place to print something, and all of these people are hogging up the computers with Facebook. But you know that the moment you sit down, the urge to log in begins to creep in. However, though, you think to yourself, “I don’t want to be that person.” Unfortunately though, by the end of your stay in the library, you’ve blown most of your time looking at your News Feed.
Recently, I’ve been brain storming ways to keep myself away from, not only Facebook, but just the internet in general. One big thing that I’ve been doing lately is unplugging my wireless. Actually, Suddenlink’s internet is so terrible that there’s usually no need for me to.
If hacking into another wireless network seems too tempting, just completely turn your computer off if there’s truly no need for it. If you find yourself doing more reading on Texts From Last Night instead of your history book, then put your computer away.
Sometimes when my boyfriend is home while I’m studying, he points out whenever I’m on Facebook instead of studying. Although it’s no fun to get jumped on, it does get me back on track when he makes note of it.
And if these tips won’t help you out, then you my friend, have a serious addiction. In this case, you should immediately seek help from either Dr. Phil or MTV. You may even get your own show: True Life - I’m Addicted to Facebook.

Hey, it's pointless. There will be another social network, Handbook, for example, and everything is back on track.
